![]() Rekindle your passion for Viking warfare and reforge your path in this much improved version. Vikings has a story mode that revolves around the Viking conquest of England during the Viking Age but you can play it as a sandbox. Vikings emphasises infantry battles and naval battles, since you can buy or build your own ship. It is possible to do this while taking a lot fewer risks, never engaging more than one of the four enemy. Play through an all new storyline set in dark, mysterious Ireland, befriend a canine companion and master the art of fighting with the unpredictable Berserker units. Vikings is set in Dark Age Northern Europe and Warband in imaginary Calradia. An attempt to take on a Danish longphort single-handedly, at full difficulty. Viking Conquest Reforged Edition is a completely free update to all owners of Viking Conquest, which adds a host of new features and content as well as re-balancing and fixing previous issues with the DLC. Online battling also takes on its own flavour, with special modes like Coastal Assault and Warlord. Multiplayer modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Conquest, Battle, and Siege. Multiplayer battles with up to 64 players. The DLC features a story mode with a complex plot, where choices have real consequences, as well as a standard sandbox mode in an all new setting, with expanded options and controls. Mount & Blade: Warband is a stand alone expansion pack for the game that brought medieval battlefields to life with its realistic mounted combat and detailed fighting system. From the creators of the popular “Brytenwalda” mod, “Viking Conquest” is a brand new DLC for Mount & Blade Warband! This single and multi player DLC brings Mount & Blade to historical Dark Age Britain, complemented by authentic scenes and cultures. Jake, the custodian, appears to suffer from some mental health issues exacerbated by a lifetime of extreme loneliness. “Jake” is an idealized version of his younger self, and the woman is a fantastical version of a person he met once long ago. Everything we see with Jake, his parents, and this unnamed woman is taking place inside the head of an older man, a high school janitor ( Guy Boyd), who is contemplating taking his own life. But this is a phrase that can also mean “I’m thinking of committing suicide,” and by the end of the book it becomes clear that’s the truer meaning of the title of the book. We take it to mean that she’s thinking of breaking up with her newish boyfriend, Jake ( Jesse Plemons), while they’re on their way to meet his parents. “I’m thinking of ending things” is a phrase repeated both by the female narrator of the book and the film’s central character, played by Jessie Buckley. The biggest hint about what, exactly, is going on in both the book and the film comes in the title. What follows is an attempt to unpack Kaufman’s film with the help of both Reid’s book and one very famous Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Iain Reid’s novel of the same name-though plenty complicated in its own right-clarifies the central premise of Kaufman’s adaptation and illuminates its abstract ending. Thankfully, there’s help in the form of the novel that the film is based on. But even though one would never call any one of Kaufman’s films simple or direct, I’m Thinking of Ending Things might be his most purposefully inscrutable work. I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which landed on Netflix on Friday, plays around with many familiar Kaufman concepts like dual identities, dream-like realities, and frustrated, lonely men and the women they hope will save them. Certainly fans of his earlier work like Synecdoche, New York Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Adaptation and Being John Malkovich have been eagerly anticipating his return. ![]() ![]() I’m Thinking of Ending Things is acclaimed writer-director Charlie Kaufman’s first film since 2015’s Oscar-nominated stop-motion romance Anomalisa. ![]() HDMI 2.1 serves no purpose aside from letting Samsung slap that label on the monitor’s marketing. ![]() The Neo G9 can’t even deliver 4K from a console because its native resolution is 5,120 x 1,440, which is too low to handle 4K’s vertical resolution of 2160 pixels. Yes, you can now connect an Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 at once, but neither supports an ultrawide or super-ultrawide aspect ratio. It’s actually a downgrade from the prior model, which had one HDMI 2.0 and two DisplayPort ports. Samsung’s inclusion of two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort might sound like an upgrade, but it’s not. This includes the Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti in my desktop, so I was limited to a refresh rate of 120Hz on my main gaming rig (I also tested with an RTX 30-series laptop). Cards prior to Nvidia’s RTX 20-series and AMD’s 5000-series lack this feature. The monitor’s maximum 240Hz refresh rate is only available over DisplayPort 1.4, and only with a video card that supports Display Stream Compression (DSC). The HDMI 2.1 ports can handle a refresh rate up to 144Hz. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 includes two HDMI 2.1 ports, an upgrade from HDMI 2.0 on last year’s G9, and one DisplayPort 1.4 port. You might want to look up your monitor arm’s maximum weight, however, as the Neo G9’s display panel tips the scales at a hefty 26 pounds. VESA mounting is supported with an included adapter. The tilt and swivel action are well-tuned, making it possible to adjust the monitor with a light yet intentional touch. It keeps the monitor stable and includes adjustment for height, tilt, and swivel. Still, I can’t help but think the monitor would be more practical with a less extreme curve and a stand that trades size for heft. This is a big monitor with a big curve, so it’s going to take up space. ![]() You might need to plan a desk upgrade to go along with the monitor. The full depth is 17 inches which, on my desk, places the edges of the monitor closer to the front of the desk than the rear. The stand is an absolute unit that measures 31 inches wide and 9 inches deep. Samsung also leaves the monitor’s functional problems untouched. This is where you’ll find the monitor's customizable RGB light. There’s also a vent-like ring rounding the stand’s connection with the monitor. A vent near the top provides sporty flair and the massive stand makes a statement on any desk. Why mess with what works? The Neo G9’s glossy white rear plastic looks sleek, futuristic, and luxurious. I don’t blame Samsung for keeping the prior model’s look. The only aesthetic change is on the monitor’s lower left bezel, where the prior model’s bright green Nvidia G-Sync logo is replaced by a more subtle monochrome badge. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9’s exterior is nearly identical to last year’s G9. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 delivers all of the above yet suffers new problems that take the shine off its best feature. To say it shouldn't be an artist's platform is ridiculous, because they are citizens first. It's just because artists are in the public eye and have an advantage, but there are all different people doing different kinds of jobs, who are active. The funny thing is that you might not pass judgment for a lack of participation - but many pass judgment on the fact that some people don't just shut up and sing. I wouldn't judge someone who wasn't involved though, since I think it needs to come from a certain type of motivation. Artists and celebrities are citizens, and as such you have a responsibility to keep fighting for justice because there are monolithic power structures and systemic oppression out there. But it's hard for me to understand why people wouldn't want to be involved just as citizens. I don't think it should be mandatory, because if you are going to be politically active it has to come from a pure place. How important do you think it is for celebrities or artists to harness their political power? Maybe even more than important - sometimes almost close to mandatory, like in this election? I don't underestimate the value of what musicians and entertainers contributed to Obama's campaign. People are believing, and that's always a good thing. Whenever anybody gets involved in politics its always exciting for me because we take for granted our freedoms and our abilities to affect change through political activism. I think anytime any young artists get involved in politics it's a very good sign - it's a sign that they are inspired, and I think that so many young people got involved with the Obama campaign because they had hope after having despair for so long. How does it feel to see so many young artists finally become invested in a political movement? Or at least having others finally feel the weight and impact of their activism.
